I always said that too, but then I held the calling for over 2 years and survived. But alas, not the OT. I attended a workshop at our last Stake Women's conference about women in the bible. It was amazing. There are so many who aren't even named. Such as who really was the woman at the well... Are their identities left out because they are less valuable to society or do the authors of the scrolls protect their identity from ridicule by granting them anonymity?

And hannah is the one that amazes me too! Who gives up their child like that? I mean I know it was for the Lord, is that for us modern day moms to draw strength from when we send of our missionaries?Nicolehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15833797880141198887noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3387313653417602858.post-35916795449728742242010-06-24T18:00:39.859-06:002010-06-24T18:00:39.859-06:00I wish I had a better understanding of the OT. I'm leaning to enjoy the OT more the more I study it, but I have to admit I still get angry at times. I love the fact that they value being a mother maybe it's too extreme, but I think sometimes in our culture it's not valued enough.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15397013024731998499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3387313653417602858.post-23951744642292670692010-06-22T14:54:11.660-06:002010-06-22T14:54:11.660-06:00I love this post, Nancy! I know a lot of the stories, but very little about the social life and traditions. I especially hold the women of that time in high regard. There are so many sisters who had challenges with child-bearing, and, like you pointed out, it was viewed as their fault. Talk about having issues with self-esteem. I am so glad we live in a time where we have medical advances that may help us better understand these challenges.

I bet you are a wonderful teacher!Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15138527483626595229noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3387313653417602858.post-31211899017343836602010-06-22T09:06:06.486-06:002010-06-22T09:06:06.486-06:00I too, do not understand the OT and I'm still ...I too, do not understand the OT and I'm still in Genesis! You are doing a wonderful, wonderful job as our teacher and doing a spectacular job as a mother.Jewelshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11005143526385426970noreply@blogger.com
